Davao City Ordinance: NO CCTV, NO BUSINESS PERMIT!

A Davao City Ordinance pushes for the use of CCTV in businesses in the City.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system has been widely used for many decades. Since its introduction, many homes and establishments have been very dependent on its use for various reasons. It has also greatly evolved as technology moves further into the future.

In the Philippines however, CCTV has only been gaining popularity just several years ago.  Despite the youth of CCTV usage in the Philippines, many cities have started to strongly encourage businesses and barangays to install CCTV within their area, thus the “No CCTV, No Business Permit” policy.

In Davao City, such a policy has already been passed as a local ordinance since 2014. According to this Davao City ordinance, business establishments with P2 Million and above capitalization are mandated to install a CCTV system. This will also be one of the requisites for applying for a business permit, as well as for those who wish to renew their permits.

The City Government, along with the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) have always been keen on reiterating the importance of installing a CCTV system in businesses for security and public safety.

The PSSCC has also expressed its plans on connecting with the CCTVs from all establishments that have them to heighten security and monitoring of the city.

Due to bandwidth limitations, this project has not been implemented yet but is something they are looking forward to in the future.
